Day 16: Libraries!

Libraries can be a building that houses resources and they can be a collection of resources. I have a library of cooking books in my kitchen, and I visit the local libraries when I need a specific book or map or want to use a computer.

Local libraries are Bowman Library in Stephens City, VA; Handley Library in Winchester, VA; Clark County Library in Berryville, VA; Polk Library at Lord Fairfax Community College in Middletown, VA; and the medical library at Valley Health Winchester Regional Medical Center (by appointment). There is a reference librarian at each venue to help find specific information about various books of days and perhaps how to make them.

Some books are so old and rare that they cannot be handled by the general public. The University of Wisconsin at Madison library has a digital copy of the Chambers Book of Days in its database. The beauty part is a viewer can see the book by clicking on next page and go from page to page as if reviewing it personally. Sometimes when clicking on next page, it appears nothing happened but those are the blank pages between sections.
