Varsity Tutor presents 20 ways to look at a book, meaning 20 ways to interact with a book. Some of the ways include writing the author, creating a timeline for the story, and compare/contrast the book with another book. These techniques, and the other 17 ways in the list are ways to interact with the text. Although these are helpful for readers, nothing is presented about ways to interact with the book physically, the question arises what about hands-on interactions? What ways can a person approach a book when making a re-imagined book?
For this project, some ideas for physically re-imagining a book could revolve around the ways to handle the paper of the book's text: cutting, tearing, painting, gluing, and all the ways artists use media. Decoupage, stamping, sculpting, and coloring in various ways are starting points for approaching discarded books for refurbishing. Hand tools from the garage or shed might be needed as well since hardback books can be challenging. these would be necessary for the gourds anyway.
