Day 11: Active Voice

Active voice is writing in a direct and to-the-point manner. The scientific community (researchers) prefer it because scholarly writing written in active voice presents the facts and makes an argument without unnecessary words. The meaning is clear so there is NO confusion about intention.

Technically, in active voice the subject of the sentence does the action:
A book of days chronicles a person's daily activity.

In passive voice, the object of the action is promoted to subject status:
A person's daily activity is chronicled by a book of days.

Quick tip? If the verb follows is, reword the sentence to be more direct.

Active voice: good scientific grammar.
English grammar books are now aps!

Questions about the Book of Book Days topic: Does a Book of Days need to be in active voice since it is a personal dialogue from day to day? Is there a middle ground from scholarly writing to more informal writing that does not include 'you'?
