Day 7: Asking Good Questions

There comes a time with any research project when the questions locate the same pieces of information, over and over. By using the Asking Good Questions handout, a researcher is forced to see the project from a different point of view. The change of perspective will often be enough to reinvigorate the research process.

The 7 Questions:

Quantity  -- How many ways might _________ (a person write a Book of Days)?
Reorganization  -- What would happen if _______(a Book of Days was edible)?
Supposition  -- How would ______ (a Book of Days) change if ________ (if it were months)?
Viewpoint -- How would ________(a Book of Days) be interpreted by _______(Ray Charles)?
Involvement -- If you _____________(had no paper to make a Book of Days) what would you do?
Forced Association -- How is ____(a Book of Days) like a ________(sandwich)?
Evaluation -- What is the ultimate value of ______________ (a metal Book of Book Days)?

A metal Book of Days
The Evaluation question lead to a different point of view that was previously unknown. A metal book found in a cave in Jordan offers a vastly different perspective from the paper bound books located so far. This opens the possibilities of making a Book of Book Days in unexpected materials!
