Day 25: Common Knowledge

Common knowledge is information so generally known by the public it does not need to be cited. The idea that a book of days is a collection of daily thoughts is common knowledge and would not have to be cited. However specific information from a book of days would have to be cited because the interior text of the book would not be commonly known.

Poor Richard, 1737
Poor Richard's Almanac is commonly known to be book of days because one of the United States' founder Benjamin Frankly wrote and printed it...it would be common knowledge in the US, BUT not necessarily in Europe or China. In that case, it is better to cite the source for anything from the text since some of the audience reading the research may not be familiar with the book.

When in doubt cite.

Keep track of your days!
