Apple Gourd

Here is the apple gourd.  (Gourds frequently have names reflecting their shape or purpose such as this apple gourd or dipper gourds or spoon gourds, etc.)

When hard-shelled gourds dehydrate, their wall structure is similar to a softwood and can be crafted as such. Therefore, using a bandsaw this apple gourd was opened so in the end it can be hinged to open like a book.

Once cut open, it was clear the seeds and surrounding pith had bonded together into a solid mass making it easy to pop out, leaving a pretty easy interior wall to sand clear of debris.
